About Pokémon

The History of Pokémon

Pokémon was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996. The franchise began as video games for the original Game Boy, and was later adapted into a trading card game, animated television shows and movies, comic books, and toys. It is now one of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world.

The Pokémon world is centered around fictional creatures called "Pokémon," which humans known as Pokémon Trainers catch and train to battle each other for sport. The slogan for the franchise is "Gotta Catch 'Em All" referring to the main goal of collecting all of the available Pokémon species.

Over the years, the franchise has expanded to include 8 generations of main series games, numerous spin-off titles, and has introduced over 900 unique Pokémon creatures. The franchise continues to grow with new games, animated series, and movies regularly released worldwide.
